Overall, London was a nice experience. Even though we had to get up early to catch our flight, and the hostel was disgusting, we had a lot of fun and saw interesting things.
For me, the highlight was the exhibition we visited in the Tate Modern gallery, which dealt with vouyerism and survaillance in photography. Other interesting things included the shakespeare-play, greatly staged and acted even though the story was boring and it was not always easy to understand everything. Unfortunatly, the visit to Camden was disappointing, as most of the shops only carried generic junk and it was way too crowded. Also the prices in the city were usually very high, but the delicious sandwiches and the burger at Brick Lane were worth their money. An especially enormous waste of money was the hostel, with its badly organized staff, broken toilets and dirty rooms, so we were all glad we had a full program and therefore did not have to spend much time there. The program also included a visit to the Hyde Park, a great place on a sunny day, and other typical sightseeing places like the Monument with its nice view of the city and Covent Garden. While the underground was a fast way of transportation everywhere, there were often too many people and it was even hotter than outside, so it was nice whenever we were able to walk somewhere. Since we only stayed four days, we did not see much more, and I wish we had had some more time to see more places that maybe are not that obvious but in total it was a great time. |
